A SoundPress.net CD Review
![]()
Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band's Live! In Chicago - performed and recorded at Chicago's House of Blues - is scorching! The fourteen track CD opens with a shout out to Chicago and a smoking version of "Somehow, Somewhere, Someway". The set list is diverse with classics from KWS's catalogue and traditional blues numbers including a killer cover of "I'm A King Bee". The album features special guests Hubert Sumlin, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Buddy Flett, Bryan Lee and Tommy Shannon (of Double Trouble) who add more dynamics to the music. Despite an illness that nearly kept Kenny from performing that night the concert was energizing and emotional. KWS soared on his guitar solos as his tight band kept pace contributing their own precise nuances to the jams. Lead singer Noah Hunt brought a seductive element to the songs with his deep sexy vocals. There were many fiery moments at the Chicago concert including a bewitching "Deja Voodoo", a sizzling and sultry "Dance For Me Girl" and a blazing "Blue On Black". Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band's Live! In Chicago is incendiary! Info: -- USA 2010: www.kennywayneshepherd.net (Laura Turner Lynch/Kweevak.com) |
