A SoundPress.net CD Review
![]()
Rory Gallagher was a guitar guru who died young but left his mark on many musicians and fans. Rory Gallagher: The Beat Club Sessions (Eagle Rock Entertainment) captures him as a budding blues guitarist on a German music program. Rory first performed on the Beat Club in 1970 with his band Taste and later Gallagher returned to showcase his solo work. The twelve track CD features varied musical styles and storytelling ranging from blues, country to rock compiled from his various appearances on the show over the years. Rory's raw talent was apparent in these live performances. The CD opened with "Laundromat" - which was awash in lusty leads and beats. "Hands Up" flew on hardy riffs and rhythms followed by "Sinnerboy" which ran the gamut from pensive to potent. The blues were also well represented on this collection ranging from the old school styled "I Could've Had Religion" to "In Your Town" which blended the blues with rock. Gallagher's classics "Crest Of A Wave" and "Messin' With The Kid" rounded out the dozen. Rory Gallagher: The Beat Club Sessions captures the essence of the man and musician and keeps the legend of Rory Gallagher alive!
