A SoundPress.net CD Review
![]()
Sounds on Space Age Blues Devon Allman describes his latest release Space Age Blues as "Darth Vader meets B.B. King". The eleven track CD combines Devon's interest in blues and sci-fi in context of our current age. Musically it is a blend of blues, rock and soul. The CD opens with the forceful and funky "Could Get Dangerous" with Huey Lewis punctuating points with his harmonica. The title track is a slow simmering blues tune with serious lyrics. "Salvation" is soulful and countered by a catchy cover of Steve Wonder's "Sir Duke". "Endless Diamond" is cutting and flows into the instrumental "Bleu Est Le Vide" with fine fret work from Allman on a lone guitar. "Warm In Wintertime" is wishful and enhanced with strings from Bobby Yang. "New Pet Money" is doled out with a heavy pace with horns and piano adding to the piece. "I'm Ready" and "Take Me To The Bridge" rock with bold rhythms from George Potos (bass) and Gabriel Strange (drums). The CD closes with "Insh Allah" a spacey, spirited instrumental accented with middle eastern tones. Space Age Blues melds classical and contemporary sounds in a cohesive set that is varied and colorful. Info: -- USA 2010: www.thetribalcommunity.com (Laura Turner Lynch/Kweevak.com) |
