A Kweevak.com DVD Review
![]()
Barclay James Harvest (BJH) was an English rock band formed in the 60's. The core was a trio who played a blend of art, classic, orchestrated and progressive rock. Their musical legacy lives on and the DVD - Barclay James Harvest - Berlin: A Concert For The People (Eagle Rock) - captures them at a pivotal point in their long standing career. On August 30, 1980, BJH played a free concert in front of the Reichstag in West Berlin, with an estimated attendance of 250,000 people and they were also the first Western rock band to play an open-air concert in pre-Glasnost East Germany. The event was filmed and recorded with plans for a live album and movie but technical issues that day limited the full vision for these projects. The DVD features many concert clips and any gaps are filled with picturesque videos. The film opens with the setting up of the stage and shots of the Berlin Wall as a huge crowd gathers for the concert. The show was a blend of moods, melodies and jams. The set list included classics such as "Mockingbird" and the catchy "Sip Of Wine". "Berlin" and the haunting "In Memory Of The Martyrs" were performed especially for the Germany fans. "Life Is For Living" and "Hymn" were engaging. The DVD includes some special features including Barclay James Harvest performing a creative montage of Beatle song titles and lyrics.
