A Kweevak.com DVD Review
![]()
In the late eighties/early nineties Jane's Addiction was at the forefront of creating a new chapter in the hard rock canon. They have sold millions of records and have maintained a strong following. In 2009, the original line up (Dave Navarro-guitar, Eric Avery-bass, Stephen Perkins-drums and Perry Farrell-vocals) convened on Halloween for a haunting and heavy live performance at Voodoo Experience. Jane's Addiction: Live Voodoo (Eagle Rock Entertainment) captures the event on DVD. Perry was a shaman draped in a cape as he stalked the stage and sang over racing riffs and roaring rhythms. The staging was dramatic and dark with lights, smoke and dancing ladies. The thirteen song set list drew heavily from their first two albums with some extended instrumentation. The DVD features diverse camera angles of each band member with shots of the audience - many in costume - who shared the stage with Jane's Addiction at the concert's climatic end. In addition to the show in New Orleans the DVD has bonus material including clips from L.A. gigs (2008), a photo gallery and a featurette from NME. Jane's Addiction: Live Voodoo captures a historic and hypnotic moment from one of hard rock's most riveting bands. Info: -- USA/NY 2010: www.janesaddiction.com (Laura Turner Lynch/Kweevak.com) |
