A Kweevak.com DVD Review
![]()
Velvet Revolver is a hard rock supergroup consisting of one-time Guns 'N' Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, along with Dave Kushner, formerly of Wasted Youth and Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland. In 2004, the band achieved commercial success with their debut album, Contraband and its single "Slither" won the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. The group has been on hiatus but rumors imply that VR will be back in 2011 as new songs have been written with hopes of finding a singer. Velvet Revolver Live In Houston (Eagle Rock Entertainment) was filmed in 2005 as the band toured in support of Contraband. In addition to the concert there are clips and interviews with the group discussing the formation of Velvet Revolver. The set list was a hot and heavy mix of VR material including "Slither" and Fall To Pieces" along with songs from STP and Guns 'N' Roses. The live show featured bright lights and blazing riffs and rhythms with numerous sizzling solos from Slash. Video effects, racy comments and charismatic performances added to the adrenaline of the band and their fans. This is hard rock on speed - showcasing the skill and sass of VR as they steadily built momentum to their climatic close. "Sex Type Thing" was dramatic with lusty leads, vibrant vocals and beguiling beats with Matt kneeling and playing a guitar with drum sticks as sirens and red lights flashed and ended the Houston show on high!
