An Evening With Frank Zappa During Which The Torture Never Stops (Eagle Rock Entertainment) was filmed on Halloween night in 1981. Zappa the individual and his shows were innovative and unique. The Halloween concert showcased 22 songs - many from the You Are What You Is double album with Frank conducting, playing guitar and singing supported by a strong team of players and vocalists. Frank was a composer, film director, guitarist, producer and writer. In his lifetime, Zappa released more than 60 records and influenced many. Frank's music was a sinister stew of the avant garde seasoned with blues, classical, jazz and rock. Zappa added many experimental elements to his complex compositions and his insightful lyrics ranged from caustic to comical. The Halloween setlist had many highlights including a beguiling "Beauty Knows No Pain" with bells, sound effects and persuasive progressions bleeding into the odd yet opulent "Charlie's Enormous Mouth". "Bamboozled By Love" was vivid with violent lyrics melding with a vibrant blend of riffs and rhythms. It was contrasted by "We're Turning Again" - a combination of a classic crooner singing about the 60's in enigmatic structures. "Dumb All Over" featured cutting commentary about the chaos people have caused because of religion. Frank's points were punctuated by potent guitars and bomb noises. It was countered by the soulful "Heavenly Bank Account". In addition to the concert the DVD has more live footage and a short film.
