The Steeldrivers: Bad For You

Journey. Judas Priest. Queen. Yes. All these classic rock bands have found success at various times replacing their signature sounding frontman with a reasonable facsimile. On their latest release BAD FOR YOU, the bluegrass music giants The Steeldrivers prove that this formula can in fact work in their genre, too. Of course, it was only in 2015 when band alumni Chris Stapleton found international stardom after turning in his hammer to set out on a solo side track. The departure of an icon left the group reeling but a discovery on YouTube revealed a young rock and roll singer from Berea, KY named Kelvin Damrell who many are saying sounds more like Chris Stapleton than Chris Stapleton. That's great for all of us because his powerful presence on the 11-song platter moves this one up high on the list for album of the year. The sledge comes down hardest on the title track that finds the band working in gritty, hard-stomping unison. "Forgive" is a tasty anthem loaded with more wisdom than a Sunday sermon certifying Bad For You as nothing short of damn good.
