Charlie Daniels Tips His Hat to Nation's Patriots in Nashville
Charlie Daniels is an American legend and a local hero in Tennessee. So, it makes perfect sense that he would choose to honor our nation's heroes in his home state. For the second year running the "Charlie Daniels Patriot Award Dinner" was held at The Palm Restaurant in Nashville on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.
CD at the second "Charlie Daniels Patriot Award Dinner" at The Palm Restaurant in Nashville "The Journey Home Project dinner event at The Palm just gets better and better every year," said Daniels of the event that raised more than $200,000 for the Country Music Hall of Famer's veterans non-profit The Journey Home Project (TJHP). "We are so very grateful to the good people of Middle Tennessee for supporting us in our efforts to help our veterans." The Patriot Awards is the new high profile celebration held to support The Journey Home Project - the not-for profit organization that assists other not-for-profits in securing funds to help causes that benefit veterans of the United States Armed Forces. TJHP was founded in 2014 by country music legend Charlie Daniels and his manager, David Corlew. Conscious of the need to assist our nation's veterans, they have set out to partner with organizations that do the most good, with the least overhead. Working in tandem with these organizations, TJHP is making a difference in the lives of American patriots.
Darryl Worley reminded attendees to never forget September 11th. Coincidentally or not this year's gala took place on the eve of the 18th anniversary of the tragic day called "9-11" when America was attacked leading to endless war and wounded soldiers. To that end two key figures prominent in that moment in history - Michael Flynn (former National Security Advisor / US Army Lieutenant General, retired) and former New York City Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik - were in attendance making it one patron called "the safest room in the world" at the moment. Additionally, the sold-out event featured performances by Daniels ("Let 'em Win Or Bring 'em Home") and Darryl Worley ("Have You Forgotten") and remarks from decorated military veterans Mark "Oz" Geist (Benghazi survivor and co-author of 13 Hours / US Marine Corps, retired), Eddie Gallagher (US Navy SEAL), The evening was hosted by SiriusXM's Storme Warren and former Navy SEAL David Rutherford.
Charlie Daniels and 2018 Patriot Award recipient Chris Young. The Charlie Daniels Patriot Awards were presented to Nashville businessman Donnie Mingus (Team Construction) and music industry international talent buyer/promoter Judy Seale (Judy Seale International / Stars for Stripes). Country star Chris Young (last year's Patriot Award recipient) made a surprise appearance to present a third award to the Shepherd's Men, an organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the SHARE Military Initiative at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. Each recipient was handpicked by Daniels and his manager and TJHP co-founder, David Corlew. The criteria for the award is based on the mission of the organization: to support veterans in their return, rehabilitation, and reintegration back into civilian life. The award honors a person, persons, or group that fulfills and exemplifies the efforts and dedication of TJHP's purpose to continuously care, support and encourage the men, women, and families who have served our great nation.
Bernie Kerik and Michael Flynn were distinguished speakers at the 2019 event. Central to the event was an exciting silent auction that offered rare and one-of-a-kind items from the worlds of sports, music, military, and the man himself - Charlie Daniels. Our eyes went to the Pete Rose bat, Derek Jeter baseball and Steve Young game used jersey. Most unique was the signed prehistoric skull featuring autographs by the hometown heroes of the ice - the Nashville Predators. As the finale approached Daniels even put the hat he was wearing on his head up to the highest bidder generating an additional three thousand dollars for the worthy cause. From his Dove Award-winning gospel albums to his genre-defining Southern Rock anthems and his CMA Award-winning country hits, few artists have left a more indelible mark on America's musical landscape than Charlie Daniels. An outspoken patriot, beloved mentor, and still a road warrior at age 82, Daniels has parlayed his passion for music into a multi-platinum career and a platform to support the military, underprivileged children, and others in need. The Charlie Daniels Band has long populated radio with memorable hits and his signature song, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." Over the course of his career, Daniels has received numerous accolades, including his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame and becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Daniels helps to shine the spotlight on the many causes that are close to his heart.
Rare sports and music items were in abundance at the silent auction. Related Links: For more information on CHARLIE DANIELS and the other organizations mentioned please visit the following links -- Charlie Daniels | The Journey Home Project
