Folds of Honor Holds a Tasty and Tasteful Fourth Annual Benefit for the Families of Veterans in Music City

by Rich and Laura Lynch

The 4th Annual Drams 'N Jams took place at the Bell Tower in Nashville, Tennessee on March 24th, 2022 to benefit Folds of Honor. The gala event brought together two Tennessee icons - live music and whiskey tasting. Each table setting at the venue had five samples of bourbon and whiskey to cover the Drams part of the evening.

Kip Moore and Charles Esten brought real star power to the elegant affair.

Prior to the meal and music there was time for patrons to mingle and participate in silent auctions - many of the items were fine whiskeys, cooler kits and a guitar autographed by John Rich who is a proud ongoing supporter of Folds of Honor. Between the music folks could bid on rare bottles of whiskey along with a guitar signed by Dolly Parton.

First up was special guest Rocky Sickmann (United States Marine Corps Sergeant and P.O.W., Iranian Hostage Crisis) who spoke about some of his experiences, declaring that freedom is not free! He stated that he will always be grateful to those who sacrificed for him and reminded us that there are many more stories of sacrifice, thus emphasizing why the work of Folds of Honor is so important.

Robbie Goldsmith and Rocky Sickmann were inspiring during their presentations in Nashville.

"Folds of Honor is the vision of Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney. On a flight home from his second tour of duty in Iraq he became painfully aware of the realities families face when a loved one in uniform is fallen or disabled. As the plane landed, the pilot announced they carried the remains of Corporal Brock Bucklin on board. Lt. Colonel Rooney watched as Corporal Bucklin's twin brother walked somberly alongside the flag-covered casket to meet his family on the tarmac. Among them was the Corporal's young son, Jacob. Since that night, Lt Col Rooney has committed his life - through the Folds of Honor - to provide scholarships to spouses and children of America's fallen and disabled service members. Jacob Bucklin became the first Folds of Honor scholarship recipient."

Writer rounds are a popular live music format in Nashville. The 2022 Folds of Honor Drams 'N Jams starred Kip Moore, Charles Esten, Jameson Rodgers, Raelynn, and Chris DeStefano. Each artist in this impressive line-up performed three songs that included some delightful drinking tunes to match the theme of the night.

Drams 'N Jams showcased live music from five of Nashville's top singer/songwriters, a whiskey tasting paired with a plated dinner, plus auctions along with very special guest speaker - Rocky Sickmann. The event was a smashing success as it raised over $100,000 for Folds of Honor who in turn will be able to give out scholarships to those who have sacrificed for all of us.

Some of the mouth watering silent auctions and the cause they went to support.

"Since its inception in 2007, Folds of Honor has awarded 35,000 total scholarships in all 50 states. Minority scholarship recipients represent 41% of all educational scholarships. Folds of Honor is proud to have a cumulative average ratio of 90% of every dollar raised going to our scholarship program. Folds of Honor is a 501(C)(3) Nonprofit organization, rated a four-star charity by Charity Navigator and Platinum on Guidestar."

The Bell Tower proved to be a hospitable host for the 4th Annual Drams 'N Jams fund raiser. The Bell Tower is a historic church that dates back to 1874. Today, it is an eye pleasing event venue with plenty of natural light. Other amenities include a full on-site kitchen, bridal lounges and state-of-the-art light and sound. The Bell Tower can accommodate seated dinners for up to 400 and cocktail style receptions for 700.

The artists made some bold and flavorful whiskey recommendations at Drams 'N Jams.
