Andrea Bocelli Is Beguiling at the Bridgestone in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

The award-winning, multi-platinum-selling, Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli kicked off his U.S. tour in Nashville, Tennessee on February 09, 2023. Anticipation was high at the Bridgestone Arena as people packed the house for a night at the opera featuring the Nashville Symphony backing the beloved singer which was to be a first for both. The orchestra started the show with a spirited instrumental. Cheers erupted as the star was led to the center of the stage. In addition to the Symphony there was a sizable choir to add even more energy to the music along with visuals that enhanced this already elegant affair.

The event in Music City and the 2023 concerts will showcase songs from Bocelli's expansive repertoire, ranging from early fan favorites to his latest full-length studio album Believe - along with a selection of arias, his adored crossover hits and famed love songs. The current record has been described as a deeply personal collection that celebrates the power of music to soothe the soul. The inspiring set of new material includes a never before heard track from maestro Ennio Morricone.

At the Bridgestone, Bocelli was in fine form exploring the full and expressive range of the classics. During his set, Andrea sung with a number of powerhouse songstresses including Larisa Martinez and Pia Tuscano. They performed alone and in beautiful duets with Bocelli. The challenging operas proved the passion and power of all the vocalists reminding us why so much of this music has a long and rich history which comes through even if we did not understand the lyrics sung in Italian.

Valentine's Day came early in Music City.

In the second half, Andrea said what a pleasure it was to be here before inviting his wife Veronica to join him on stage. Bocelli held her hand while singing a love song to her - it does not get any more romantic than that. The concert had been promoted as a Valentine's celebration and we heard the word amore more than once during this captivating program. Caroline Campbell presented a vibrant violin solo. She was joined by Bocelli while a pair of dancers imitated a bull fight. A bit later those two would have a more sensuous encounter. "Can't Help Falling In Love" sung in English was a hit with the Nashville faithful who were treated to more than one encore. No one wanted the night to end but of course Bocelli is just at the start of a world tour so he must be mindfully of protecting his gift.

Since 1994, Bocelli has recorded 15 solo studio albums of both pop and classical music, three greatest hits albums, and nine complete operas, selling over 75 million records worldwide. Andrea's distinctive and dramatic voice has given him a global following. In April 2020, Bocelli broke records with his emotionally charged Music for Hope performance from the historic Duomo cathedral in Milan. His moving Easter recital is considered one of the biggest musical livestreams of all-time and had the largest simultaneous audience for a classical livestream in YouTube history.

It was a big night for the Nashville Symphony, too.

Bocelli was beguiling at the Bridgestone. He will be on the road for much of the year so check Andrea's website for dates. Fans will also have an opportunity to see the artist in an upcoming film. Prior to the Nashville concert, clips were shown of a soon to be release Fathom Event aptly named The Journey. The movie will be shown in US theaters April 02 - 04 & 06, 2023.

This film features conversations and musical performances as cameras shadows Bocelli and his wife Veronica travelling on horseback along Italy's Via Francigena, which is an ancient road followed by pilgrims for centuries in the footsteps of the apostles and saints. Along the way, they are joined by friends 2Cellos, Michael W. Smith, Tori Kelly, Tauren Wells, and TAYA for world-class collaborations in some of Italy's most magnificent venues and majestic locations.

Larisa Martinez was one of the many colorful special guest performers.
