Alexis P. Suter Band - Red Hot Blues on a Sunday Afternoon in Ringwood
The Alexis P. Suter Band presented a blazing set on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the New Legacy Concert Series in Ringwood, New Jersey. They were so hot it was surprising that they did not melt some of the snow outside the window which was the backdrop for this unique daytime performance.
![]() The Alexis P. Suter Band brought some much needed heat to Ringwood in March, 2014. The Alexis P. Suter Band (APSB) defies labeling. They are a six piece band fronted by their namesake. Alexis has a bold baritone voice filled with soul that transcends blues, gospel, rap, rock, roots and more. In 2005, the group was discovered and strongly supported by Levon Helm of The Band. The APSB were regulars at Helm's Midnight Ramble Sessions. In that same year they released their first album. Since then the APSB has performed at many prestigious festivals and halls with four studio records and one live recording to their credit. The band strutted their stuff with an instrumental opening that was beguiling and bluesy setting the tone for the rest of the show. Alexis sporting a black top hat strolled out for the second song. The APSB took the crowd on a blessed Biblical journey with Noah. "Didn't It Rain" was righteous. Everything about Suter was commanding even something as simple as singing "well, well." Both Alexis and Vicki rapped and rocked on "You Don't Move Me No More" with the band adding scorching sequences to the tune. "Wow! So good to be here," greeted Alexis who jested about the winter weather before they presented "Just Another Fool" ignited with feeling. Vicki - who sung in the much higher ranges than Alexis - added a fine contrast and muse to the moody tune. Next, the bass with the drums at the forefront propelled Alexis' points to help your fellow man. The track was spoken and sung, layered over fast and furious jams with Suter punctuating it all with long powerful notes A pensive piano set the tone for George Harrison's "Isn't It A Pity". The APSB truly connected to the compassion and content of this powerful piece. Vicki shared that the group had the opportunity to perform at the 50th Anniversary of Martin Luther King's Dream speech. They were asked to recreate some of the music from that day. They shared "If I Had A Hammer" with the Ringwood fans. Ray added delicate cymbals and percussion to the anthem allowing the words to wash over the audience. Their version was filled with spirit. Suter was shaking almost crying with the sentiments of the song.
![]() More scenes from the Alexis P. Suter Band concert. "Having a good time!," declared Alexis before they presented the big sounding "Be On Your Way". It sparked of the blues with sizzling guitar solos from Arthur who was on fire all afternoon. In the same vein the band played "Built For Comfort" with more burning riffs and rhythms. "Rise" was riveting with its rousing call to rise up along with both ladies adding percussion to the jam. The sound was good with all the instruments clear in the mix. In that spirit the APSB added varied vocalization to The Beatles' "Let It Be" taking an already hopeful song to an even higher level. Their gospel approach preached rock revival ending it with the word Hallelujah. Returning to hard hitting blues they played the potent "All Over Again". Determined to get the crowd dancing they did "Hip Shake" with Alexis demonstrating some moves which got fans on their feet for the feisty track. The APSB kept the crowd engaged during the encore with "Got My Mojo Working". The Alexis P. Suter Band presented a red hot set. The show was not just about the lead but everyone contributed to the intensity of the music. SoundPress.net has enjoyed many shows at the RPL with this concert now topping our list.
